[ Whatever is happening, Juniper is absolutely swept up in it, sorry V. With that aura, their get-ups, giant nets, how else is she supposed to see them other than as— ]
Villains! Mister Doggy here did nothing wrong except for get lost.
[ She points dramatically at them! ]
So you'll have to go through me!
[ By the way, Mister Doggy has gotten up to nose rather insistently at V's hand (and the jerky he's holding in it).
So you've chosen to obstruct justice, says the agent. Very well!
What is happening? Juniper sure doesn't know. All she knows is that as the three agents rush forward, she plants her feet firmly into the ground and dashes out to meet them head-on. And although wild magic doesn't manifest outside of the Dodo House, it's very clear from her roaring voice that she is very much still going into a battle rage. Don't need magic to be hungry for a fight!
As she enters this little fight cloud, she calls out to V: ]
Go on with Mister Doggy without me, if you have to...! I'll keep them busy!
[Oh my god. What is ACTUALLY happening here. V watches all of this occur before him with some befuddlement, instinctively letting the Dalmatian take the jerky from his hand.
...In retrospect, this shouldn't be too surprising. Juni is just playing her usual part of intrepid adventurer (TM) and, much like their foray into the dungeon together, is taking point when a threat presents itself. And a threat certainly is presenting itself in the most unexpected manner possible — animal control agents that might as well be villainous figures in a children’s Saturday morning cartoon.
But these agents wield those nets with furious deftness, trying to give Juni their all. They might not be fierce as her, but there are three of them, and therefore three nets swiping through the air, sometimes trying to bonk her on the head. Rude!
V sees the strategic value in running away. In fact, he’s done so before when faced with an enemy that might overpower him; however, far be it from him to just run away immediately without lending his friend some aid. He reaches out with his cane to stop the downward arc of another net trying to hit Juni.]
Stop that. Does she look like an animal to you?
(Never mind the bunny ears.) The net hits V’s cane and is jostled free of one agent’s grasp, going flying overhead.
Hey! they remark.]
Oops. Bye now.
[NOW he turns, picking up his cane by its middle, and begins to dart off down the alley. The dog follows him!]
[ Just because she has rabbit ears and is a little aggro doesn't mean she has to go into animal control - this is so rude! The very moment that a net comes up over her head, she declares that these three must be Defeated At All Costs. But before she can react, V enters the fray!
And what a boon he grants with his intervention. The net is freed from villainous clutches, which means it's her turn. Reaching up, she catches the handle of it deftly and then cackles. ]
Foolish villain! [ And also, stage-whispering at V: ] Thanks, V!
[ With a determined, menacing aura, she turns her attention back to the enemies. ]
Stop picking on doggies and girls with bunny ears!!
She's still outnumbered, but with one agent now de-netted, the tides are officially turning. After all, they're scary-looking, but they really just are animal control employees. Juni is Juni. They're gonna get wrecked.
Somehow, in the scuffle, one ends up splayed on the ground, another with a net over his head, and the last one? He's still standing, net gripped tight, looking at Juni with some trepidation, but still courageous enough to bark out:
Th-this is your last chance! Stand down!
Meanwhile... V is getting his wheezy-ass self down to the end of the alley, taking a corner. He leans against the wall of the nearest building, catching his breath and gesturing for the Dalmatian to wait next to him. The dog wags its tail and does as its told obediently, probably in hopes of earning another piece of jerky.
He's going to listen to how this all goes down, in case he does need to swoop in for a rescue. Or like. Pay a fine or something later to get Juni out of animal control jail.]
[ Juni is Juni and she's properly Enraged! They're gonna get wrecked.
When at last it comes down to herself and one remaining Villain, Juniper flourishes her giant net, even twirling it a bit in an act of intimidation! In spite of his brave threat a moment ago, he squeaks and shrinks in the face of this display.
It would be much too easy to strike him down now...
But just beyond where he stands, Juniper sees V and Mister Doggy at the light at the end of the alleyway. With V catching his breath, and Mister Doggy waiting faithfully (for another piece of jerky).
Ah, in the heat of battle, she completely lost track of her comrades... Her quest... Mister Doggy's owner, who must be worried sick, waiting for her precious Mister Doggy to be returned to her... And V, who's waiting for her, as infallible of a party member as always. How could she take him for granted...!? ]
I...
[ Fingers loosening in her grasp, the net clatters uselessly to the ground. ]
I'm standing down. But you're going to let me and my friend go and return Mister Doggy to his family, or else!
[ The Villain squeaks again and before he can properly respond, Juniper is shoving past him and making her way to V and Mister Doggy, already producing another piece of jerky from her little bag with one hand and then reaching out for V's shoulder with the other. ]
[An enemy encounter thoroughly dealt with. They should be proud!
And it's promising to hear a sudden dearth of scuffling, with Juni's voice echoing down the alleyway in a victorious manner. V assumes that means their battle has been won; not that he expected any other outcome.
The doggy happily takes the jerky treat when she returns, and V turns to look at her with a smile once she claps a hand on his shoulder.]
Darting to and fro is something of a workout for me in this world. [He heaves out a chuckle.] But the exercise is sometimes welcome.
[In other words, he's just fine!]
I take it you defeated those cads without any issue at all.
[ Somewhere behind her, the three animal control employees are collecting themselves, confusedly muttering amongst themselves about what the hell just happened, which is honestly so valid and fair of them.
Juniper, meanwhile, is smoothing her clothes, patting some dust from the fight cloud off of her pants. ]
I made a very convincing case for why they should let us go and reunite Mister Doggy with his owner!
[ Mister Doggy barks, giving a full-body shake after inhaling the jerky. Doesn't Juniper see the blue collar? Mister Doggy is a Miss Doggy! ]
We should get going, before they change their mind!
[No... they did not... Because they are Dumb when they combine their powers.]
Oh, I'm sure you did. I could hear it from all the way down here. Good job, Juni.
[A+ violence.]
All right, let's be off, then. No point in lingering when we can at least bring one of them back to their proper homes.
[And maybe it helps that V is an animal person, or maybe Miss Doggy is just good-natured and liable to follow them if they urge her. Either way, V coos at her to follow and... Well, she does! Tail wagging, tongue lolling in that happy dog-like way.
